The Artist
Born and raised in Memphis, Kirk Whalum grew up on the gospel, blues, R&B and jazz of his hometown, and his big, warm tenor sound carries all of it. Over four decades he has recorded, toured the world, and played the saxophone solo on Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," one of the most recognized sax moments in popular music.
He won his first Grammy in 2011 for Best Gospel Song, "It's What I Do," featuring Lalah Hathaway, and has earned twelve Grammy nominations. His album Epic Cool carries that same mix of groove and soul.
Special Guests
Atlanta jazz singer, son of the late "Jazz Blues Diva of Atlanta," Theresa Hightower, and mentored by Freddy Cole. His album Legacy earned airplay on SiriusXM's Real Jazz and Jazz FM in London, and he is a regular at WCLK's Friday Jazz at the High Museum.
